
Five Singles Players, Three Doubles Teams Advance In ITA Regional Action

DURHAM, N.C. - Mideast Regional action will continue at Duke and North Carolina on Friday, as five Blue Devils are set to compete in singles competition and three doubles tandems remain in action.
Freshman Aaron Carpenter posted his third win in two days on Thursday, defeating Sergi Arumi of Virginia Commonwealth in straight sets (6-1, 6-4). Carpenter picked up two victories on Wednesday to qualify for the main draw.
Also in action on Thursday was junior David Goulet, who fell to Anuwat Dalodom of Elon, 6-4, 7-5.
Duke freshman Dylan Arnould, sophomore Kiril Dimitrov and seniors Peter Rodrigues and Joey Atas all received first-round byes in the main draw singles bracket, and will play their first regional singles matches on Friday.
Arnould, the 111th-ranked singles player in the country, will meet Chris Louis of Richmond at noon, while Dimitrov will square off against Ygenny Supeko of USC at 9 a.m. Forty-fourth-ranked Rodrigues will meet Gustav Asplund of Elon at 9 a.m. and Atas will face off against Chris Cloer of Florida State at 10:45 a.m.
Three of four Duke doubles teams will also be in action on Friday as they advanced to Friday's round of 16 after posting two wins on Thursday.
Atas and Goulet defeated Taylor Ferrier and Roberto Vasques of Gardner-Webb, 8-1, and Drew Bailey and Michael O'Shea of Florida State, 8-4, and will meet Scott Fink and Andy Orban of Maryland on Friday.
Arnould and Rodrigues recorded wins over Predrag Burmazovic and Daniel Isaza of East Tennessee State (8-3) and Bobby McNally and Matt Stillwagon of Richmond (8-3), and are set to square off against Cory Parr and Charles Sartor of Wake Forest in the round of 16.
Dimitrov and junior Ned Samuelson defeated Thiago Barbosa and Germano Knorr of Winthrop and Henrique Cancado and Harel Srugo of Old Dominion, and will meet Lenny Gullan and David Stone of North Carolina in Friday's round of 16.
Carpenter and junior Alex Stone posted a win over Damon Gooch and Mason Schermerhorn of Elon (8-5) on Thursday before falling to Treat Huey and Lee Singer of Virginia, 8-4.
