J.J. Redick scored a game-high 28 points while shooting 7-of-15 from the field, 4-of-11 from three-point range and 10-of-10 from the line. He added a season-high six assists, two steals and two rebounds to his performance. The game marked his 54th career 20-point game (12th of the season and sixth straight) and his 103rd career game with 10 or more points, including all 17th this season. Redick has reached double figures in 19 straight games and in 58 of the last 60 dating back to his sophomore season. Redick's 103 career 10-point games ties Jim Spanarkel for ninth-most in Duke history while his 54 20-point games ties him with Dick Groat for fifth most in Duke history.
Redick now has (2,255) career points and passed Ralph Sampson (2,228) and Buzz Wilkinson (2,233), both from Virginia, and moved into 11th place on the ACC chart. Immediately ahead is Maryland's Juan Dixon, who had 2,269 career points. Redick's four three-pointers gives him 381 career triples and he moved past UMKC's Ronnie Smith (378) and into fifth place in NCAA history. Redick owns the Duke record and is second in ACC history behind NCAA record holder Curtis Staples from Virginia, who had 413 in his career.
Redick scored 12 points in the first half, marking the 16th time in 17 games he's reached doulbe-figures by halftime. He's averaging 15.5 points per first half this season.
Shelden Williams scored 21 points, grabbed nine rebounds and recorded four blocks and five steals. Williams became Duke's career blocked shot leader, passing Mike Gminski (345). Williams' 348 career blocks is the fifth most in ACC history. Williams reached 20 points for the 22nd time in his career and ninth of 2005-06 and double-figures in points for the 83rd time in his career and 16th time in 17 games this season. Williams also recorded his third career game with five or more steals and second of the season as he was just one away from his career high of six set against UNC Greensboro on Dec. 31, 2005.
Lee Melchionni recorded 12 points to reach double figures for the 17th time in his career and sixth time of the season. Melchionni has reached double figures in three of the past four games. Melchionni's four three-pointers is his second-highest total of the season behind five at Wake Forest on Jan. 8.
Sean Dockery scored exactly 10 points for the third straight game and fourth of the last five. The one game he didn't score 10 he had eight at Wake Forest on Jan. 8. Dockery has scored in double figures in 15 career games, including eight in 2005-06. Dockery added five assists and four rebounds to his performance.
Duke trailed at halftime 34-33 to N.C. State. It marked just the second game this season Duke has trailed at the half joining Virginia Tech, who led 36-35 on Dec. 4 at halftime.
Duke allowed an opponent to shoot 50 percent for just the third time of the season. Virginia Tech shot 51.6 percent on Dec. 4, Clemson shot 54.1 percent on Jan. 14 and N.C. State shot 51.9 percent tonight.
Duke recorded 13 steals against N.C. State marking the 10th game this season with double figures in steals and in nine of the last 11 games.
Duke is 17-0 for just the second time in school history, match the school's best start to a season with the 1992 National Championship team.
Duke's Mike Krzyzewski won his 738th career game and 665th at Duke. He is No. 12 on the overall win list, just eight back of 11th and Phog Allen while he is eighth on the list for most wins at one school, 10 back of Louisville's Denny Crum.
Duke has posted a 124-25 ACC regular season record since 1997-98.
