Junior Alison Bales collected five blocks on the night becoming Duke's all-time blocked shots leader (214). Bales also moved into fifth place on the ACC all-time blocks list. She passed Sarah Sullivan (212) on both charts. She also notched 11 rebounds and 13 points on the night in 24 minutes. It was her third double-double on the season and fifth of her career.
After starting slow over the last two games, Duke used its pressure defense to jump out to an early lead. The Blue Devils went on to lead by 21 (27-6 at 13:07) and posted a 51-16 halftime advantage, while shooting 64.5 percent from the field.
Over the last two games, Duke had shot 25.9% at Boston College and 31.6% at Georgia Tech.
Sophomore Wanisha Smith made her second start of the season and the first since Nov. 22 against Fairfield. Smith made the most of the start scoring seven of Duke's first nine points and finished with 13 in the first half. Smith had 15 points, three rebounds, three assists and two steals in 22 minutes.
Sophomore Chante Black did not play due to a sore left foot. Black will get her foot examined when the Blue Devils return to Durham.
Senior Monique Currie moved into a tie for 22nd place on the ACC career scoring list with her 13 points on the night. Currie passed Janet Knight of Clemson (1,795) and Chanel Wright of UNC (1,805), while being now tied with Kathy Crawford of UNC (1,806). Currie currently owns 1,806 points.
After starting 13 straight game, freshman Abby Waner came off the bench against Holy Cross. Waner finished with a game-high 17 points, two assists and three rebounds in 19 minutes. She broke a five-game streak of not scoring double-figures.
As a team, Duke forced 22 turnovers marking the 15th time this season the Blue Devils have forced 20 or more turnovers in a game.
Duke shot 50.0 percent or better for the 13th time this season (54.1).
The Blue Devils conluded a four-game road trip tonight and will return home to face N.C. State on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. It will be the first of two straight home contests as the Blue Devils will also host top-ranked Tennessee on Monday, Jan. 23 at 7:30 p.m.
