Shelden Williams was named to the Fan's Guide to ACC Basketball All-Defensive team Wednesday in a vote by the league's head coaches. Williams received 10 of a possible 11 votes and along with North Carolina's Jackie Manuel was the leading vote-getter for the team.
The only team selected by the league's head coaches, they vote on players they consider the league's best defenders regardless of position. Senior Daniel Ewing and junior Sean Dockery also received votes for the team.
Williams is the 15th Duke player selected to the team in its 10 year existence and the only season Duke didn't have at least one player on the team was its first year in 1996. Georgia Tech and Maryland have the next highest total with seven apiece over that time period. Six times Duke has had two players on the team, a feat accomplished by only Georgia Tech in 1996 throughout the rest of the league.
Williams leads the ACC in total rebounds, blocks, offensive rebounds and defensive rebounds. He is the only player in the NCAA to be ranked in the top seven nationally in rebounding and blocked shots.
Williams and the rest of the Blue Devils head up to Washington, DC, where they are the third seed at the 2005 ACC Tournament. They will face the winner of Thursday night's contest between Miami and Virginia Friday at 9:00 p.m.
