Duke, the top-ranked team in both the AP and ESPN/USA Today polls, takes an eight-game win streak into an early season battle versus No. 2 Texas on Saturday, Dec. 10 at Continental Airlines Arena in East Rutherford, N.J.
The Blue Devils are coming off a 72-59 win over Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Dec. 7. Senior guard J.J. Redick posted a game-high 24 points on 8-of-16 shooting to lead the Blue Devils. Redick also went 4-of-9 from three-point distance and had a team-high four assists.
Shelden Williams also had a strong game with 20 points, five rebounds, two blocks and four steals. He was 5-of-7 from the field and 10-of-11 from the foul line.
Duke forced 26 turnovers in the win, while allowing only 22 made field goals. The Blue Devils have had three games this season in which they have forced more turnovers than opponents have made field goals.
Sean Dockery led the defense with five of the team's 16 steals. The Chicago, Ill., native also had 11 points and seven rebounds in the win. Freshman Josh McRoberts also had seven rebounds as well as eight points and four steals.
Duke vs. Texas
The Blue Devils hold a 2-0 edge in the all-time series with Texas. Duke posted a 95-69 win in the first meeting on Nov. 11, 2000 in the Preseason NIT. Duke also registered an 89-61 win over the Longhorns on Dec. 20, 2003 in the Dreyfus Classic at Madison Square Garden. All five Duke starters reached double-figures with J.J. Redick posting a game-high 20 points. Shelden Williams added 14 points, nine rebounds and four blocks.
Duke vs. the Big 12
Duke is 18-4 all-time against schools currently in the Big 12. The Blue Devils have winning records against Kansas (6-2), Oklahoma (4-0), Texas (2-0), Missouri (2-0), Kansas State (1-0) and Texas A&M (1-0). The Blue Devils are 1-1 all-time against both Colorado and Oklahoma State. Under Coach K, Duke is 17-3 against the Big 12.
Storylines
- Saturday's contest between No. 1 Duke and No. 2 Texas is the 19th regular season meeting teams ranked No. 1 and No. 2 in the AP poll.
- Duke is 16-1 all-time at the Meadowlands (Continental Airlines Arena) including a perfect 10-0 mark in NCAA Tournament action. The Blue Devils have won nine straight games in the arena.
- The Blue Devils held Penn to 22 made field goals on Wednesday while forcing 26 Quaker turnovers. Duke has now held three of its eight opponents to fewer made field goals than turnovers committed.
- Mike Krzyzewski is 7-3 all-time against Rick Barnes. Coach K is 2-0 versus the Longhorns under Barnes and he was 5-3 against Clemson when Barnes was in charge there (1994-1998). Kryzewski has also won the last six meetings between the two coaches.
- Senior Sean Dockery averaged 15.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.5 steals per game in Duke's last two contests. He also shot 64.7 percent (11-of-17) from the field, including 62.5 percent (5-of-8) from three-point range. Dockery rattled home a 45-footer as time expired to give Duke a 77-75 win over Virginia Tech. He knocked down four three-point field goals and finished with a career-high 19 points versus the Hokies.
- J.J. Redick leads the ACC in scoring at 22.9 points per game. The Roanoke, Va., native is averaging 14.3 points in the opening half of Duke's eight contests. Redick scored a game-high 24 points in Wednesday's win over Penn to move past former Blue Devil greats Trajan Langdon, Art Heyman and Shane Battier into ninth place on Duke's all-time leading scorers chart. He currently has 1,988 career points, 12 points shy of becoming the ninth player in Blue Devil history with 2,000 points in a career.
- Duke has shot better than 48 percent in 10 of 16 halves this season and is shooting 50.3 percent from the field (218-of-433) on the year. The Blue Devils last shot over 50 percent for the year during the 1998-99 season.
- J.J. Redick has shot 50.0 percent or better in five of Duke's eight contests. On the year, he is shooting 48.0 percent (59-of-123) from the field including 44.2 percent (23-of-52) from the three-point arc.

Three of Duke's No. 1 vs. No. 2 meetings have come in NCAA Tournament play. Top-ranked Blue Devil teams posted wins over Kansas (1986) and Michigan State (1999) in the NCAA Tournament National Semifinals, while the 1966 Duke team fell to Kentucky in the Final Four.
Duke's has played in each of past two regular season meetings between No. 1 and No. 2 and three of the past five games No. 1 vs. No. 2 matchups overall.
Since the 1985-86 season, the No. 1 vs. No. 2 series is tied at five wins apiece. Two of the five wins by No. 1 teams were recorded by the Blue Devils.
No. 1 and No. 2 teams have squared off twice at the Meadowlands in East Rutherford, N.J. Top-ranked North Carolina posted an 82-69 win over Kentucky during the 1981-82 season. Kentucky returned to the Meadowlands for the 1996 Final Four and registered an 81-74 win over No. 1 Massachusetts to advance to the NCAA Championship game.

- March 23, 1986 - Duke 71, Navy 50 - Duke tops No. 17 Navy to earn its first NCAA Final Four trip under Coach K. Johnny Dawkins had 28 points and seven rebounds in the win over the David Robinson-led Navy team.
- Dec. 13, 1986 - Duke 76, Alabama 67 - Tommy Amaker and Danny Ferry combined for 28 points and freshman Phil Henderson added 15 points in nine minutes to lead Duke to a win over No. 18 Alabama.
- March 26, 1988 - Duke 63, Temple 53 - Billy King hounded high-scoring guard Mark Macon into a 6-of-29 shooting night as Duke toppled top-ranked Temple, 63-53, to advance to the Final Four. The Blue Devils held the Owls to just 28.6 percent shooting from the floor in the game. Duke posted a hard fought 73-72 win over Rhode Island two days earlier at the Meadowlands.
- March 26, 1989 - Duke 85, Georgetown 77 - Christian Laettner recorded 24 points on 9-of-10 shooting with nine rebounds to lead Duke past No. 2 Georgetown and into the Final Four for the second straight year. With the score tied 52-52 at the 14:28 mark Duke went on a 16-4 run. Georgetown went on a 12-0 run to cut the lead to two points with 3:25 remaining but Duke closed out the game with free throws for the eight-point win. Danny Ferry added 21 points and seven rebounds and Phil Henderson scored 23 points.
- March 24, 1990 - Duke 79, Connecticut 78 (OT) - Christian Laettner got the return pass off a sideline inbounds and knocked down a leaning 15-footer with one second left in overtime to give Duke a 79-78 win and to their third straight Final Four. Huskies guard Chris Smith forced overtime with a three-pointer that tied the game at 72-72 with nine seconds left in regulation. Laettner finished 7-of-8 from the floor with 23 points. Alaa Abdelnaby scored 27 points with 14 rebounds and Phil Henderson tallied 21 points for Duke.
- Dec. 22, 1998 - Duke 71, Kentucky 60 - Elton Brand returned to the starting lineup to score 22 points on 9-of-12 shooting to go along with eight rebounds and two blocks as Duke defeated No. 3 Kentucky in a No. 2 vs. No. 3 matchup. Duke's defense held the Wildcats to 34.9 percent shooting from the field and 3-of-16 from three-point range. Trajan Langdon added 18 points in the win.
- March 21, 1999 - Duke 85, Temple 64 - Trajan Langdon made 5-of-6 three-point attempts and scored a game-high 23 points to lead Duke to the East Regional Championship in a 21-point victory over Temple. Elton Brand added 21 points on 8-of-10 shooting and eight rebounds as the Blue Devils shot 60.0 percent from the floor for the game.
- Dec. 18, 2001 - Duke 95, Kentucky 92 (OT) - Jason Williams scored 23 of Duke's final 31 points in regulation, including a free throw that tied the game with eight seconds left to force overtime. Williams knocked down 7-of-10 three-point attempts and finished with a career-high 38 points. Mike Dunleavy also had a big game with 21 points and eight rebounds while Chris Duhon had nine assists.
