Duke Wrestling Competes At Southern Scuffle

GREENSBORO, N.C. ? The Duke wrestling team competed at the 2005 Southern Scuffle Dec. 29-30, recording 10.0 points to finish tied for 29th in team scoring. The University of Minnesota captured its second consecutive Southern Scuffle title, registering 192.0 points in the two-day tournament. Redshirt freshman Dan Fox led the way for Duke, posting two wins at 184 pounds.
The University of Missouri (149.0), Cornell (131.0), Edinboro (103.0) and Ohio State (94.5) rounded out the top five finishers at the 2005 Southern Scuffle.
After dropping his opening round match to Ohio State's Alex Picazo, Fox defeated North Carolina's Robert McCarthy, 9-7. Fox claimed his second victory of the tournament in his third match, recording a 9-2 decision over East Stroudsburg's Nick Woodward.
Sophomore Wes Kuser registered the only pin of the tournament for the Blue Devils, defeating Virginia's Danny Artusio in 1:17 at 149 pounds. Junior Daniel Shvartsman also picked up a win at 149 pounds, scoring a major decision victory over Campbell's Steve Wiktorek, 14-6.
Freshman Addison Nuding earned a 3-0 win against Gardner Webb's Paul Florio at 157 pounds, redshirt freshman Aaron Glover posted a 6-5 win over Ohio University's Anthony Spooner at 165 pounds and senior Levi Craig defeated Ohio University's Ryan Knapp, 5-0, in the 174-pound weight class. Redshirt freshman Dan Tulley added a 10-4 victory over Woodward at 184 pounds while sophomore Konrad Dudziak defeated Cornell's Taylor Moore, 14-7, in the 197-pound weight class.
The Blue Devils will return to action on Jan. 9 with a two-match dual meet, squaring off against The Citadel and Campbell in Charleston, S.C.
