DURHAM, N.C. ? After a successful performance at last weekend's Carolina Open, the Duke wrestling team will head west to compete in the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational on Friday and Saturday. The two-day tournament will feature eleven top-25 teams including No. 2 Illinois, No. 3 Michigan, No. 11 Wisconsin, No. 13 Cornell and No. 14 Arizona State. This will be Duke's first appearance in the Las Vegas Invitational.
“We're looking forward to having a chance to compete with and knock off some of the top-ranked teams in the country,” stated Duke Head Coach Clar Anderson. “Hopefully we can earn some national recognition for our individuals and our team.”
The Las Vegas Invitational will be the first of two major two-day tournaments in December for the Blue Devils. “I scheduled this tournament to get our team experience competing against top-ranked opponents,” Anderson said. “This tournament will give us good opportunities for seeding later in the year and will help prepare us for our ACC schedule.”
Duke comes into the Las Vegas Open off their best performance of the season at last weekend's Carolina Open. The Blue Devils captured eight top-ten finishes, highlighted by second-place finishes from sophomores Aaron Glover and Dan Tulley and a third-place finish from junior Daniel Shvartsman.
The Blue Devils will next compete at the Southern Scuffle in Greensboro, N.C., Dec. 29-30.
