With its 75-67 win over No. 17 Indiana, the top-ranked Duke men's basketball team improves to 6-0 on the season while the Hoosiers fall to 3-1. Duke evens up the series with the Hoosier at 3-3.
Duke improves to 7-0 all-time in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge and gave the ACC its sixth victory thus assuring the ACC's seventh straight win in the conference battle.
Indiana had converted on 42-of-72 three-pointers (.583) in its first three contests and Duke held the Hoosiers to a 2-of-10 (.200) performance from behind the arc.
The Hoosiers were averaging 28.6 assists per game as a team in its first three games, and Duke held Indiana to 12 in the contest.
Senior J.J. Redick led the Blue Devils with 29 points off of a 10-of-17 shooting performance, including 4-of-8 from behind the arc and 5-of-6 from the line. The game marks the 91st in his career scoring in double figures, including all six this season, and 45th career game with over 20 points and his fourth 20-plus point performance in 2005-06.
Redick's 29 points gives him 1,946 in his career and he moved past Grant Hill (1,924; 1991-94) and into 12th place on the Duke career chart. Immediately ahead is Trajan Langdon, who scored 1,974 from 1995-99.
Redick's four three-pointers gives him 335 in his career and he moves into the all-time NCAA chart and currently ranks 23rd in NCAA history. Immediately ahead is Villanova's Gary Buchanan, who hit 337 triples. Redick continues to stay in fourth place in ACC history and second in Duke history. Immediately ahead on both charts is Duke's Trajan Langdon (342, 1995-99).
Shelden Williams scored 13 points off of a 6-of-9 shooting performance, and added nine rebounds and six blocks, two steals and an assist to his performance. Williams has now scored in double figures for the 72nd time in his career and fifth time this season.
Williams has now blocked at least five shots in 22 career games, including twice in 2005-06.
Williams 13 points gives him 1,358 in his career and he remains in 31st place on the Duke career chart.
Williams six blocks gives him 306 in his career and he continues to trail only Mike Gminski (345, 1977-80) on the Duke chart. He did move past North Carolina's Brendan Haywood and into eighth place on the ACC career chart. Immediately ahead on the ACC chart is Clemson's Elden Campbell (334).
Senior Lee Melchionni came out of a slight shooting slump, scoring 12 points on 5-of-8 from the field, 2-of-5 from behind the arc, and added nine rebounds and three assists on the night. It was Melchionni's 13th career double-figure scoring game and his second this season.
Freshman Greg Paulus scored 13 points and his 4-of-5 free throws down the stretch. He added six assists and a pair of rebounds to his performance. Paulus has now reached double figures in two games.
Coach Mike Krzyzewski now has 727 wins in his career, good for 14th place on the NCAA all-time victory list. With Temple falling to Rutgers, Coach K is in alone in 14th place. Immediately ahead is Norm Stewart (728).
Coach K also recorded his 654th career victory at Duke, becoming just one of 10 coaches in NCAA history to win 650 games at one school. Ninth place belongs to Oklahoma State's Henry Iba, who finished with 655 victories with the Cowboys.
Duke has now won 140 of its last 172 games outside of Cameron Indoor Stadium.
Duke is now 61-18 in road games since 1997-98.
