Duke's Shelden Williams was named ACC Player of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to wins over Drexel and Memphis. The senior forward was tabbed the NIT Season Tip-Off Most Outstanding Player after guiding Duke to its third Preseason NIT championship.
Williams averaged 25.0 points, 8.5 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.5 steals per game, while also shooting 64.3 percent (18-of-28) from the floor. The 6-9, 250-pound senior started the week off with 20 points and nine rebounds in a 78-68 win over Drexel on Wednesday night.
The Forest Park, Okla., native was at his best in the championship game two days later, matching his career high with 30 points in a 70-67 win over Memphis. Williams went 11-of-13 from the floor and 8-of-13 from the foul line in the win over the Tigers. He also grabbed a team-high eight rebounds to go along with three blocked shots and two steals in 39 minutes of action.
Duke will next play No. 20 Indiana on Wednesday in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. Wednesday's game will be at Assembly Hall in Bloomington, Ind.
