Duke won its third NIT Season Tip-Off Title, also winning in 1985 and 2000. Both seasons, Duke advanced to the National Championship game, becoming the first team to win the then-Pre Season NIT and National Championship in the same season.
Senior Shelden Williams scored 30 points off of an 11-of-13 performance from the field, matching his career-high. Williams added eight rebounds and was rewarded by being named the NIT Season Tip-Off MVP.
Williams 30 points is the second time he's reached 30 points in a game in his career and its his 15th career 20-point game and 71st game in double figures.
Williams' 30 points gives him 1,345 in his career and he moved into 31st place on the Duke all-time scoring chart. Williams surpassed Joe Belmont (1,338; 1953-56). Immediately ahead is Mike Dunleavy (1,371; 2000-02).
With three blocked shots, Williams recorded his 300th career block. He becomes the second Blue Devil and ninth player in ACC history to record 300 blocks in a career.
Williams' 11-of-13 performance from the field pushes him to 34-of-56 (.607) on the season.
J.J. Redick scored 15 points to hit double-figures for the 91st time in his career and for the 35th straight time and 42nd in his last 45 contests dating back to the 2003-04 season.
Redick's 15 points gives him 1,917 in his career and he remains in 13th place in Duke history. Immediately ahead is Grant Hill (1,924; 1991-94).
With three triples on the night, Redick now has 331 in his career and passes Wake Forest's Randolph Childress and into fourth place in ACC history. Redick is 12 three-pointers away from moving into first place in Duke history, trailing only Trajan Langdon (342), who is in third place in ACC history. He also stands in 28th place in NCAA history, behind a trio of players just tied at 25th with 332.
Josh McRoberts scored a season-high 12 points for the Blue Devils, his second-straight game in double figures.
McRoberts hit six-of-nine from the field (.667) to stay right on his season average. He has now hit 18-of-27 (.667) from the field this season.
Greg Paulus had season highs with eight assists and seven rebounds vs. Memphis. He hit his only three-point attempt to improve to five-of-nine (.556) on the season and both his free throws to improve to a perfect six-of-six from the line (1.000).
Mike Krzyzewski improves to 726-246 overall and 652-187 at Duke. He moved into 14th place alone on the NCAA Division I all-time win list, now one win ahead of Temple's John Cheney. Coach K is just one of nine coaches to win 650 or more games at one school.
Now in its 101st season of intercollegiate basketball, Duke holds an all-time record of 1,767-807.
