Duke Wrestling To Hold Intrasquad Scrimmage On Saturday

DURHAM, N.C. ? In preparation for the 2005-06 wrestling season, the Duke wrestling team will hold an intrasquad scrimmage on Saturday in Cameron Indoor Stadium. The match is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m., following Duke's noon football game against Wake Forest.

After losing five Atlantic Coast Conference placers from last year's team, the 2005-06 season will be a rebuilding year for Duke wrestling. However, an impressive freshman class will begin their first year in the Duke wrestling program as the Blue Devils seemed poised to continue their emergence in ACC wrestling.

With two state champions and three state runner-up finishers entering their first year with the Blue Devils, Duke wrestling will look to its freshman class to make an immediate impact on the season. “This will be a rebuilding year for Duke wrestling but we have a strong freshman class that will step in and fill any void,” said Duke Head Coach Clar Anderson.

Saturday's intrasquad scrimmage will mostly feature the talented Blue Devil freshman class competing against upperclassmen in an attempt to establish themselves at the collegiate level.

The Blue Devil freshmen will begin their regular season at The Citadel Open on November 5. The Duke wrestling team will also compete at the UNC Pembroke Open on November 11 and at the SoCon-ACC Duals on November 13.
