Keswick, Va.-- Brittany Lang showed no mercy to her former teammate July 17 at the Women's Trans National Amateur. The rising Duke sophomore routed a recently graduated Leigh Anne Hardin, 10 and 9, in the event's 36-hole final at Glenmore Country Club.
Lang, who finished the college season ranked No. 4 in the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings, got off to a blazing start by birdieing six holes in the opening round to finish with a 66. Hardin's steady 73 paled in comparison, leaving her down seven holes heading into the second 18 holes.
But Lang didn't let up after lunch, recording birdie on the pair's 19th hole to go 8 up. After the long-hitting Texan birdied the 21st, 22nd, and 23rd holes, Hardin attempted to mount a comeback with a birdie at the 24th. But pars on the next three holes left Lang the decisive champion on the 27th green.
This year's College Freshman of the Year only added to an already impressive amateur career. Last summer the 18-year-old captured back-to-back titles at the Women's Western Amateur and North and South.
