BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. - Three-time defending champion Duke recorded a second round score of 284, increasing its lead to 12 shots after 36-holes of play of play at the Seventh Annual Bryan National Collegiate. The tournament is being held at the par 72, 6,074-yard Bryan Park Champions Course.
Duke, who broke the 36-hole tournament record, holds a 12-shot lead over Auburn (583). Wake Forest is third at 585, followed by Vanderbilt (586) and Oklahoma State in fifth at 594.
Brittany Lang (Duke) and May Wood (Vanderbilt) hold a share of the lead at 140. Wood fired the day's lowest round, four-under-par 68, which included five birdies and an eagle. Nicole Hage of Auburn and Beth Hermes (Purdue) are tied for third at 142. Meaghan Francella (North Carolina), Karin Sjodin (Oklahoma State) and 2002 Bryan National Medalist Virada Nirpathpongporn of Duke are tied for fifth at 143.
Lang, a freshman from McKinney, Texas, posted a three-under-par 70 on Saturday and is in search of her third straight tournament victory. Nirapathpongporn posted a 73 on day two after leading through the first round of play.
Both Liz Janangelo and Leigh Anne Hardin carded rounds of 70 on Saturday and sits tied for eight with a 144, only four strokes off the lead. Freshman Anna Grzebien had a 77 and is tied for 42nd with a two-day total of 152.
The final round begins on Sunday with a shotgun start at 8:30 am.
The tournament is co-hosted by the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and Wake Forest University.
Note: Duke broke two tournament records on Saturday: Lowest Score by a Team in the Second Round (282) and Lowest 36-Hole Team Score (571).
