CLEMMONS, N.C.- In search of its ninth-straight ACC Championship, the top-ranked Duke women's golf team increased its lead to 14 strokes on day two and own a two-day total of 565 at the Par 71, 6,348-yard Salem Glen Country Club in Clemmons, N.C.
The Blue Devils lead North Carolina (579), Wake Forest (582), Florida State (593), North Carolina State (596), Virginia (611) and Maryland (614) with one round remaining.
Continuing to lead the Blue Devils is freshman Brittany Lang, who is one shot off leader, Meaghan Francella of North Carolina. Lang, a native of McKinney, Texas, carded a two-under-par total on Saturday and sits at 136, while Francella also posted a 69 on day two and owns a two-day total of 135.
Lang collected one of only two eagles over the first two rounds of the championship on Saturday as she had a 40-yard chip-in on the par-five fourth hole. It marked the second-straight day Lang was four-under-par at one point during the front nine.
Blue Devil senior Virada Nirapathpongporn remained in the top-five as the Bangkok, Thailand, product registered a one-over-par 72 and owns a 142 for the tournament. Nirapathpongporn led Duke with four birdies on the day, but a triple-bogey on the par-four hole 11 countered her birdies.
Leigh Anne Hardin, a senior from Martinsville, Ind., collected a 72 and is seventh (143), while Liz Janangelo posted her second straight round of 73 and is tied for eighth.
Freshman Anna Grzebien struggled on day two with a 78 and is tied for 15th (149). Duke will tee off on Sunday with North Carolina and Florida State beginning at 9:10 a.m.
"Tomorrow we are going to have good conditions and I hope we will go out there and just play," said Duke Head Coach Dan Brooks. "They just need to enjoy themselves, be patient and don't like all the incredible expectations get to them. We should be fine if we do all of those things."
