Brittany Lang Captures Liz Murphey Individual Title; Duke Finishes 3rd

ATHENS, GA. - Duke freshman Brittany Lang captured her second consecutive individual title on Sunday with a three-stroke victory at the Liz Murphey Collegiate as she fired a final round 68 to finish with a career-best three-day total of 207, which was nine-under-par. As a team, top-ranked Duke finished third behind Georgia and Ohio State at the Par 72, 6,014-yard University of Georgia Golf Club.

"Brittany looks real comfortable out there and is having a good time on the golf course right now," said Duke Head Coach Dan Brooks. "She doesn't take much time on her shots and is keeping it simple."

As a team, Duke finished with a three-day total of 877 and were 12 strokes behind Georgia (865). Rounding out the top-10 was Ohio State (876), Duke (877), Oklahoma (882), Auburn (884), Tennessee (892), Michigan State (896), Furman (899), Florida State (899) and Wake Forest (901). The Blue Devils were the only team at the tournament playing with only four golfers as the nation's top two ranked golfers were playing in the LPGA Kraft Nabisco Championship- Liz Janangelo and Virada Nirapathpongporn.

Lang turned in her ninth even or under par round of the season on Sunday with a 68 to finish with her fifth top-five finish of the season. A McKinney, Texas native, Lang posted rounds of 66, 73 and 68 for a total of 207, which was three strokes better than Georgia's Allison Martin.

Fellow freshman Anna Grzebien finished seventh with a total of 215, after posting a 70 on the final day and senior Leigh Anne Hardin carded her best round of the weekend with a 73 to finish tied for 20th (223). Junior Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh struggled on the final day with an 83 to finish tied for 61st (232).

"Everyone on the team shot low during the weekend," said Brooks. "Even though we didn't come away with the win as a team, we saw some bright spots and nobody was hanging their heads after the tournament. To finish third with only four golfers is still a very good accomplishment."

Duke will next play at the Bryan National Collegiate from April 2-4 at the Bryan National Golf Club.
