DURHAM, N.C.-- The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) fall regional rankings have been released with six Blue Devils listed in the Southeast Region. Each of Duke's six players in the rankings was tabbed in the top 27 in the region.
Listed in the rankings were Jackie Carleton (9), Saras Arasu (13), Katie Blaszak (14), Clelia Deltour (17), Jennifer Zika (18) and Kristin Cargill (27). In the doubles rankings, the tandem of Blaszak and Carleton were sixth, while Cargill and Zika were 14th.
In the fall Carleton collected a 7-4 singles mark, after transferring from UCLA. The Jenkintown, Pa., product kicked off the season by winning the consolation bracket at the William & Mary Invitational and also advanced to the round of 16 at the Southeast Regionals.
Posting the best fall for the Blue Devils was Arasu with a 14-3 singles mark. A senior native of Tampa, Fla., Arasu won the UNC Wilmington Invitational, advanced to the singles final at the William & Mary Invitational and won three matches to advance to the final eight of the Southeast Regionals. Coming off being injured for most of her junior campaign, Blaszak notched a 5-3 record in the fall.
Zika, a sophomore from Wels, Austria, finished with a 7-6 record and freshman Clelia Deltour, out of Savigny sur Orge, France, posted a 12-4 mark in the fall. Deltour finished the fall campaign winning six of her final seven matches.
Cargill, a sophomore product of Atlanta, Ga., was tabbed the most improved Blue Devil by head coach Jamie Ashworth in the fall, as she posted a 6-5 record in singles. She advanced to the round of 16 at the ITA Riviera All-America.
The doubles team of Blaszak and Carleton registered a 2-3 record, while Cargill and Zika netted a 4-1 mark.
Duke will open the spring season on Jan. 23 at home against Tennessee. The match will be played in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center at 12:00 p.m.
