GREENSBORO, N.C. - For the second week in a row, Duke University freshman Wanisha Smith has been named ACC Rookie of the Week, after leading the Blue Devils to victories over 18th-ranked Purdue and Jacksonville State.
Smith, a freshman from Upper Marlboro, Md., averaged 17.0 points, 3.5 assists, 3.5 steals and 2.0 rebounds in the two victories. On Wednesday against Jacksonville State, Smith scored a career-high 22 points, had a career-high five steals, three assists and two rebounds in only 26 minutes. She also hit a career-high 10 of 11 free throws. Against Purdue, Smith led Duke to its fourth straight victory against a ranked opponent as she scored 12 points, had four assists and two steals.
Duke (10-1) will next travel to Ball State on Monday at 7:00 p.m., before traveling home for the holidays. Florida State's Roneeka Hodges was named ACC Player of the Week.
