Post Match Comments
Duke Head Coach Jamie Ashworth
"We expected to win today, but anytime you play a team from the SEC like South Carolina they are not going to fear anybody. They play on the of the toughest schedules in the country playing Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Georgia and Florida all in the top 10 in the nation. They are not going to back off. We expected it to be a good match today."
"We played well as got off to a good start which was good. After winning the doubles point, winning at No. 2 really quick with Amanda was big because it didn't let them get any momentum. We have talked all year about if you win the doubles point don't give up a singles match quick instead winning one quick, which we were able to do that today. We didn't let South Carolina feed off any momentum at all today."
Duke junior Amanda Johnson
"I didn't feel like I played that well yesterday and I wasn't sure how today was going to be. Once I got into the match and felt really confident and I felt like I had control of every point. Usually, when that happens I get more confident as I go on."
On traveling to Gainesville, Fla.
"I feel like we are in a real good position. We are not the No. 1 seed and we are not expected to do anything great, but we have a lot to prove. I think we have a great opportunity and every team in our draw are very good.
South Carolina Head Coach Arlo Elkins
"I thought we competed pretty well. Duke is a very good team and I think they will do well in the final 16. I was proud of the way our girls played. We really had struggled all year and had a lot of injuries. We lost a lot last year and I think at the end of the season we came together and played well. I was really proud of the way the team played today."
