ATLANTA, GA. - Duke junior Alana Beard was selected to the NCAA Final Four All-Tournament team on Tuesday night after scoring 29 points, grabbing six rebounds and hitting 12 of 24 field goals in the semifinal loss to Tennessee on Sunday.
For the NCAA Tournament, Beard averaged 23.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 2.0 blocks and 1.8 steals in five games for the Blue Devils. The Shreveport, La. native, hit 51.3 percent of her field goals, 81.1 percent of her free throws and 38.5 percent from 3-point land. In 13 career NCAA Tournament games, Beard has an average of 22.1 points per game.
In the Tennessee game, Beard became only the second Duke women's basketball player to reach the 2,000 point mark and will enter her final season at Duke with 2,016 points. The all-time leading scorer at Duke is Chris Moreland with 2,232 points. Beard also became only the second Duke men's or women's player to register 2,000 career points in only three seasons.
Beard received numerous honors as a junior including ESPN.com National Player of the Year, Kodak All-America, Associated Press first team All-America, Wade Trophy Finalist, Naismith Finalist, Midwest Region MVP, ACC Player of the Year, ACC All-Defensive Team plus many more.
