DURHAM, N.C. - As cold and rainy weather forced the top-ranked Duke women's tennis team to move indoors on Sunday, the Blue Devils didn't lose a beat downing 43rd-ranked Florida State, 6-1, in the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Duke improves to 17-2, 3-0 in ACC action, while the Seminoles fall to 13-7, 3-3.
The Blue Devils kicked off the match by sweeping all three doubles contests. Duke's fourth-ranked tandem of Amanda Johnson/Julie DeRoo defeated Amberly Tantee/Daniela Gheorge (8-6), 10th-ranked Kelly McCain/Hillary Adams knocked off Brooke Cordell/Christina Denny (8-4) and Julia Smith/Katie Granson notched an 8-4 victory over Beth Lawrence/Natalie Tirapelli (8-4).
In singles action, Duke cruised to five consecutive victories at No. 6, No. 5, No. 4, No. 2 and No. 1 to clinch to victory. Notching wins for the Blue Devils were Johnson, Saras Arasu, DeRoo, Adams and Granson. Smith, a freshman ranked 60th, was the only Blue Devil to fall as she lost to Tantee (6-1, 6-4).
Duke owns a 145-2 record against ACC opponents dating back to 1989. The Blue Devils will next travel to 30th-ranked Texas on April 2 at 5:30 PM.
