BROWNS SUMMITT, N.C. - Senior Kristina Engstrom and the top-ranked Duke women's golf team each fired under-par rounds on Friday and lead after day one at the Bryan National Collegiate in Browns Summitt, N.C.
Engstrom, a Djursholm, Sweden product, turned in 69 on Friday and is tied for the individual lead along with South Carolina's Kristy McPherson, while the Blue Devils turned in a two-under-par 286 and leads by eight strokes over South Carolina (294), Tulsa (297), Wake Forest (297), Auburn (298), Vanderbilt (298), Tennessee (298), Georgia (300), North Carolina (303) and Florida State (304).
Junior Leigh Anne Hardin (Martinsville, Ind.) fired a one-under-par 71 on day one and sits in tied for fourth. Hardin turned with a 37 on the first nine before posting a two-under 71 on the back nine. Freshman Liz Janangelo (West Hartford, Conn.) registered a 72 and is tied sixth, while sophomore Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (Lausanne, Switzerland) posted a 74. Senior Maria Garcia-Estrada is tied 88th with a 90.
The tournament is being played at the Par 72, 6,074-Yard Brian Park Golf Club. Play will continue on Saturday and Sunday with 18 holes each day.
