Blythewood, S.C. - The five-time defending Lady Gamecock Classic champion Duke women's golf team turned in a round one score of 300 on Friday and sits in second place at The University Club in Blythewood, S.C. The Blue Devils trail Wake Forest by four strokes with 36 holes remaining, while battling the cooler weather and rainy conditions on a 5,996 yard, 72-par course. . Duke junior Leigh Anne Hardin posted an even-par 72 on Friday and is tied for first individually along with Alena Sharp (New Mexico State) and Kacy Thompson (South Carolina). Sophomore Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh continues to turn in stellar play with a 75 and is tied for 15th. Fifth-ranked Virada Nirapathpongporn had a 76 (tied 21st). Coming off her first victory of the season, Kristina Engstrom notched a 77 and is tied for 27th.
Freshman Liz Janangelo turned a team-best three birdies on the afternoon, but accounted for eight double-bogies or worse to finish with a 79 on the day.
In the team standings, Wake Forest leads with a 296 with Duke (300), Texas (301), South Carolina (302), Auburn (302), New Mexico (309), Vanderbilt (310), Florida State (310), New Mexico State (316) and Furman (318) round out the top 10.
Tee times will begin on Saturday at 8:00 AM.
