Duke senior Dahntay Jones has been selected as a second team Division I All-District honoree, the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) announced Tuesday.
Jones, a tri-captain for the Blue Devils, leads Duke with 16.6 points per game and is tied for the team lead with 5.5 rebounds per contest. He also leads Duke in field goals made (114) and attempted (241) and defensive rebounds (87). A native of Trenton, N.J., the 6-6 forward ranks fifth in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a .473 field goal percentage and is seventh in the ACC in scoring (16.6 ppg).
One of the nation's top defenders, Jones was named to the national All-Defensive Team by CollegeInsiders.com and the ACC All-Defensive Team by the conference coaches last season. Additionally, Jones earned honorable mention All-ACC honors last year.
The NABC Division I All-District 5 team consists of Josh Howard (Wake Forest), Julius Hodge (N.C. State), Travis Watson (Virginia), Steve Blake (Maryland) and Chris Bosh (Georgia Tech). Joining Jones on the second team are Edward Scott (Clemson), Bret Blizzard (UNC Wilmington), Drew Nicholas (Maryland) and Rashad McCants (North Carolina).
Selected and voted on by member coaches of the NABC, the All-District honorees are now eligible for the NABC Division I All-American Team, which will be announced at the end of the 2002-03 season.
