Duke Freshman Liz Janangelo Sets Course Record; Duke in 4th Place After Day One

DESTIN, FLA. - The Duke University women's golf team sits in fourth place after day one of the ACC/SEC Challenge in Destin, Fla. at the Par 71, 5,937 yard The Raven course. The Blue Devils (297) are three strokes behind Mississippi State (294), Auburn (294) and Florida (295).
The day was highlighted by Blue Devil freshman Liz Janangelo's who registered a 67, which established a tournament record for a single-round score and leads the individual competition. The previous record was 68 by South Carolina's Darby Sligh during the 2001 ACC/SEC Shootout. Janangelo, a native of West Hartford, Conn., is playing in only her second tournament of her collegiate career.
Other Blue Devil finishers on Friday were sophomore Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (Lausanne, Switzerland) with a 75, senior Kristina Engstrom (Djursholm, Sweden) turned in a 76, junior Leigh Anne Hardin (Martinsville, Ind.) posted a 79 and senior Maria Garcia-Estrada (Tenerife, Spain) notched an 88.
The second round of the tournament begins at 7:30am Saturday with the third and final round beginning at 8 am. Sunday. A team champion, individual champion and conference champion will be determined after 54 holes of play. Florida, the defending tournament champion, is in 3rd place after the first round.
