Nirapathpongporn Captures Women's Eastern Golf Association title

YORK, NY -- Duke University rising junior Virada Nirapathpongporn made it two victories in a row by capturing the 2002 Women's Eastern Golf Association Championship on Thursday at the Country Club of York.

Nirapathpongporn fired a 73 in the third round on Thursday and finished with a three-day total of 210 to record the victory by three shots over Kristy McPherson of Conway, S.C. The win for Nirapathpongporn is her second in a row after registering the NCAA Individual crown on May 24 in Auburn, Wash.

Rounding out the top five were Sherry Herman (218), Jeanne Cho (218) and Diana Ramage (220).

In the first two rounds, the Bangkok, Thailand native turned in rounds of 69 and 68. She led Duke this past season with 14 rounds of even or under par. ---
