COLLEGE PARK, MD. -- Fourth-ranked Duke downed Maryland, 6-1, on Saturday in College Park, Md., to improve to 17-3 overall, 4-0 in ACC action. The Blue Devils will travel to Virginia on Sunday for a 12:00 PM match-up.
The Blue Devils swept all three doubles matches to take the 1-0 lead. Duke continued its stellar doubles play as the Blue Devils have won the doubles point in 11 of the last 12 matches. The tandem of Katie Granson and Susie Abromeit downed Pamela Floro/Chloe Chavardes to win their 10th consecutive match.
In singles action, the Blue Devils received victories by Kelly McCain, Amanda Johnson, Julie DeRoo, Saras Arasu and Katie Granson. Four of the five matches were in straight set wins by Duke. Fourth-ranked McCain downed Delila Causevic (6-1, 6-3), 18th-ranked DeRoo knocked off Floro (6-3, 7-5), 64th-ranked Saras Arasu defeated Emily DeCamilla (6-1, 6-1) and Granson downed Chavardes (6-2, 6-0). Johnson, currently ranked 39th-nationally, won 6-7, 7-6, 6-2 over Emily Marker for her ninth victory in a row.
