BLYTHEWOOD, S.C. -- The third-ranked Duke women's golf team fired a season-best 286 on Saturday to move into first place by 15 strokes at the Lady Gamecock Classic in Blythewood, S.C.
Duke leads the team competition with a 576 over Texas (591), South Carolina (595), New Mexico (598) and Tennessee (602).
The Blue Devils received sub-par scores from freshman Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (69), sophomore Virada Nirapathpongporn (142) and sophomore Leigh Anne Hardin (70) to jump Duke in to a commanding lead entering the final round.
Aazam-Zanganeh leads the individual competition with a four-under-par 140 through two rounds. Her two rounds of 71 and 69 are career-bests. She leads by two strokes over Nirapathpongporn (142, -2) and South Carolina's Kristy McPherson.
Hardin, a product of Martinsville, Ind., fired a 70 on Saturday and is now in fourth place individually at even par for the tournament (144). Senior Candy Hannemann is in tied for 22nd (73-78=151, +7) and Kristina Engstrom is tied for 39th (78-77=155, +11). Junior Maria Garcia-Estrada is playing as an indidual and has shot rounds of 80 and 83.
Duke will tee off beginning at 9:40 AM in the morning at the Par 72, 5,996-Yard The University Club.
