DURHAM, N.C. -- Duke University junior Alana Beard tied an ACC record with her fifth ACC Player of the Week selection on Monday after leading Duke to victories over Detroit Mercy and Iowa State.
On the week, Beard averaged 26.5 points, 7.5 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 2.0 blocks and 3.0 steals, while also hitting 66.7 percent of her field goals, 37.5 percent from 3-point land and 87.5 percent from the charity stripe. The Shreveport, La. native had her best performance of the week against Iowa State as she recorded 26 points, seven rebounds, three assists, three steals and blocked four shots in just 28 minutes of play.
The selection for Beard is her fifth out of six overall weeks this season. The one week she was not selected Duke did not have any games. Beard ties the ACC record with her fifth selection with Chasity Melvin (1997-98) of N.C. State. Last season, Beard was also selected ACC Player of the Week five different times. Overall, Beard is the ACC leader with 11 selections in only three years.
Duke will be off for eight days before hosting Clemson to kick off its ACC slate on Jan. 6 at 7:00 PM.
