PACIFIC PALISADES, CALIF.-Duke University sophomore Kelly McCain registered two victories on Friday to advance to the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Riviera All-American at the Riviera Tennis Club in Pacific Palisades, Calif.
McCain, a product of Tampa, Fla., is currently ranked fifth-nationally and will next take on third-ranked Agata Cioroch from Georgia at 1:00 PM on Saturday. Also advancing to the semifinals are Old Dominion's Nataly Cahana and Mississippi's Mira Radu.
Fourth-seeded McCain, who made her college tennis debut by reaching the Riviera/ITA All-American semis last year, opened the day with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win over Pennsylvania's 14th-ranked Alice Pirsu. In this afternoon's quarterfinals she beat sixth-ranked Sara Walker of UCLA 6-3, 6-1.
Duke's 16th-ranked sophomore Amanda Johnson notched a 6-3, 7-6 victory over Florida's 30th-ranked Zerene Reyes in the morning match to advance to the Elite Eight before falling 6-7, 6-3, 5-7 to Cahana.
In the singles consolation quarterfinals, Duke's Julie DeRoo (Ecully, France) fell 2-6, 0-6 to Marine Piriou (Northwestern). The doubles consolation bracket was not completed at the time of the release.

The two other tournaments (for singles and doubles only) are the Omni Hotels/ITA National Indoor Championships in November and the season-ending NCAA Championships in May.
