PALM SPRINGS, CALIF. - The Duke women's tennis team will open the fall season on Friday in the Adidas Tennis Classic in Palm Springs, Calif. The tournament will take place from Friday through Sunday at the Indian Wells Tennis Center.
Competing in the Adidas Classic will be players from Duke, Florida, UCLA, Arizona State, Northwestern, Notre Dame and Portland. Pairings of play are scheduled to be released on Thursday evening at the coaches meeting.
Scheduled to play singles for Duke are freshman Kelly McCain, freshman Saras Arasu, freshman Susie Abromeit, sophomore Amanda Johnson, junior Hillary Adams, junior Olga Gvozdenovic and senior Ioana Plesu. In the preseason rankings, Johnson is ninth and McCain is 49th.
In doubles action, the duos of Abromeit/Johnson, Adams/Gvozdenovic and Arasu/Plesu will battle for the first time as teammates. The team of Abromeit/Johnson were ranked 30th in the preseason rankings. All tournaments Duke participates in the fall are individual not team tournaments.
Junior's Katie Granson, Prim Siripipat and Julie DeRoo did not make the trip due to injuries.
