Play Suspended at NCAA Fall Preview; Blue Devils in Sixth Place

Auburn, Wash. - With nine teams remaining on the golf course, play was suspended Tuesday at 5:42 PM (PT) due to heavy rains and water standing on the greens at the NCAA Fall Preview in Auburn, Wash. The Blue Devils are in sixth place at seven-over-par through 10 holes at the Washington National Golf Club.
All teams which did not finish its round on Tuesday will head out at 7:15 AM (PT) on Wednesday morning to complete the second round. The schedule calls for a shotgun start at 10:00 AM (PT) for the third and final round.
For the tournament, Duke is 20-over-par and trails Ohio State by seven strokes (+13). Auburn (+15), Tennessee (+16), Tulsa (+16) and Michigan State (+19) round out the top five.
Sophomore Virada Nirapathpongporn (Bangkok, Thailand) continued her stellar play on Tuesday as she was even par through 10 holes and is in tied for second individually. Freshman Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (Lausanne, Switzerland) was having an excellent round before the rains hit with a one-over-par through 15 holes. Aazam-Zanganeh rebounded well from the 80 she shot on Monday.
Maria Garcia-Estrada also turned her play around from the first day as she was firing a two-over-par before play was halted. The junior native of Tenerife, Spain, was playing even par before posting a double-bogey on her 15th hole of the day. She has three holes left to finish her round.
Sophomore Leigh Anne Hardin (Martinsville, Ind.) came out struggling as she was five-over-par through her first eight holes, before notching two birdies in her final five holes to close out her day. Hardin has five holes left to play. Kristina Engstrom (Djursholm, Sweden) made the turn one-over-par before posting two double-bogies and another bogey in the first three holes of the second nine. She is six-over-par with four holes remaining.
The Blue Devils are the two-time reigning NCAA Fall Preview champions, as Duke captured the preview titles in Spokane, Wash., in 1999 and in Howey-in-the-Hills, Fla. in 2000.
