The Duke women's soccer team will play host for the 11th annual Duke adidas Women's Soccer Classic on Friday and Sunday at Koskinen Stadium. This year's classic will include Missouri, Georgia and top-ranked North Carolina.
First-day pairings feature North Carolina against Georgia in the 5:00 p.m. opener Friday with Duke taking on Missouri in the 7:00 p.m. contest. Sunday's matches will be North Carolina against Missouri at 1:00 p.m. and Duke versus Georgia at 3:00 p.m.
Called the Duke Women's Soccer Classic in 1991 and 1992, the tournament added adidas as a title sponsor in 1993 and has been known as the Duke adidas Women's Soccer Classic ever since.
With a set-pairings format, the tournament champion is decided by a points system. Two points are awarded for each victory and one point for each tie with goal differential used as a tiebreaker.
The Blue Devils, who are 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference this season, carry a 12-6-1 all-time record in the classic. This will be their first match since September 9, two days before the national tragedy. Duke was scheduled to participate in the San Diego Tournament in San Diego, Calif., on September 14 and 16, but the tournament was cancelled.
