DURHAM, N.C. -- Junior Kim King scored her first goal of the season at 6:24 of the first half, which proved to be the game-winner as Maryland defeated #17 Duke at Koskinen Stadium Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped the Blue Devils to 0-1 in the ACC and 1-1 overall, while Maryland improved to 1-0 in the ACC and 2-0 overall.
The Terps remained undefeated on the season behind solid goalkeeping by senior Ali Wolff, who had four saves in the shutout effort. Senior Sara Gustafson scored the Terps' second goal of the game at the 55:01 mark on a pass from junior Valerie Lawrence.
King's goal, which came on Maryland's first shot of the game, came shortly after a corner kick by sophomore Lindsay Givens. After the kick, sophomore Katie Ludwig got the ball to sophomore Audra Poulin who quickly passed to King who beat Duke sophomore goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir.
The Blue Devils return to action on Friday at 5:00 p.m. when they take on #7 Penn State at the Nike Carolina Classic in Chapel Hill, N.C.
