FLUSHING MEADOWS, N.Y.-- Former Duke women's tennis star Ansley Cargill will play in the 2001 U.S. Open on Monday in the first round against Ai Sugiyama of Japan. The match will take place on court 10 immediately following the men's singles match between Paradorn Srichaphan (THA) versus Davide Sanguinetti (ITA) beginning at 11:00 AM.
Cargill turned professional back in July and will be playing in her second U.S. Open. She is currently ranked 257th in the world in singles, while her opponent Sugiyama is ranked 39th in singles.
As a freshman at Duke last season, Cargill was selected ACC Player and Rookie of the Year as she lead the Blue Devils to a school-record 27 victories.
