TUCSON, ARIZ. (Feb. 20) - The first-ranked Duke women's golf team will head into the final round of the Arizona Invitational on Feb. 21 four strokes behind second-ranked Arizona. Duke junior Candy Hannemann (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) leads the individual competition after posting a second round 69 and heads into the final day of action with a 140 (71-69=140, -4).
Arizona posted a second round 290 and heads into the final day with a two-day total of 583, while Duke fired a 293 on Tuesday for a two-day total of 587. The University of Texas jumped into third place (592), Southern California is in fourth (594), and Stanford is in fifth (599) after the first two days of action.
Freshman Virada Nirapathpongporn continued her stellar play for the Blue Devils and is tied for third (70-74=144, E), while sophomore Kristina Engstrom (Djursholm, Sweden) is tied for 29th (76-76=152, +8). Senior Kalen Anderson posted her second consecutive 77 and is tied for 44th (77-77=154, +10) with teammate Leigh Anne Hardin, which rebounded from an 80 in the first round with a 74 on day two (80-74=154, +10).
The invitational is being played at The Raven at Sabino Springs course in Tucson, Ariz. Duke will be paired with Arizona, Texas, and Southern California on Wednesday. There will be a shotgun start at 8:00 AM.
