Duke's doubles teams once again kicked off the action by taking two of three matches for a 1-0 lead early on. Duke's 35th-ranked duo of Ansley Cargill/Kathy Sell knocked off Dorothee Kurz/Maren Mueller 9-7, while Hillary Adams/Katie Granson defeated Anh Nguyen/Charlotte Vernaz 8-5. Pepperdine's first-ranked duo of Ipek Senoglu/Paola Palencia downed Duke's third-ranked Megan Miller/Amanda Johnson 8-1, but the team that wins two of three doubles matches earns the point for doubles.
The Blue Devils went on to take the top five singles positions to earn the 6-1 victory over Pepperdine. In the first three spots, first-ranked Cargill cruised past 14th-ranked Senoglu (6-2, 6-2) and 15th-ranked Johnson downed 44th-ranked Palencia (6-4, 6-4), while it took Miller three sets to take down 68th-ranked Cintia Tortorella 6-0, 1-6, 1-0 (9).
Sell, a senior ranked seventh nationally, won in three sets over Vance 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 at the No. 4 position and Granson won easily 6-1, 6-2 over Mueller. Pepperdine's lone singles victory was by Nguyen over Adams 1-6, 6-2, 7-6 (2).
Duke improves to 5-0 overall, while Pepperdine falls to 3-2. The other semifinal match on Saturday will be first-ranked Stanford against the winner of the Northwestern/Vanderbilt match. All matches are being played in the A.C. Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
