Four Duke Blue Devils were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America South Region Women's Soccer Team. Freshman midfielder Casey McCluskey earned first team honors, while sophomore goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir and junior midfielder Carly Fuller received second team accolades.
McCluskey, a native of Fairfax, Va., had a spectacular rookie campaign, finishing the regular season tied for fourth in the conference in goals (9) and second among freshmen. The Atlantic Coast Conference Rookie of the Year posted three two-goal games on her way to earning All-ACC first team honors.
Helgadottir was instrumental in the Blue Devils' turn around this season, posting shut outs in each of their last three regular season contests. The Kopavogur, Iceland, native, who led the ACC in saves per game in the regular season (5.15), was also named to the ACC first team.
Fuller, an All-ACC second team honoree, was a consistent contributor all season long, creating most of the Blue Devils scoring opportunities. The Portland, Ore., native scored game-winners in two of Duke's last three regular season matches and scored the game-tying goal against Tennessee in the first round of the NCAA Women's College Cup to force penalty kicks.
