Blue Devils Finish Fifth At Auburn-Tiger Derby Invitational

AUBURN, ALA. - The Duke women's golf team shot a 306 in the final round of the 2001 Auburn Tiger-Derby Invitational to finish in fifth place overall with a 902 at the Par 72, 6,234-yard Auburn University Club.
Georgia captured the team title with an 885 with Auburn (890), Tennessee (892) and Arizona rounding out the top four.
Three Blue Devils carded a 75 on Sunday -- Virada Nirapathpongporn, Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh and Kristina Engstrom. For the third consecutive day, Aazam-Zanganeh and Engstrom finished with the same score and ended up in tied for eighth individually (223). Nirapathpongporn turned in a tied for 13th finish (224).
Sophomore Leigh Anne Hardin and junior Maria Garcia-Estrada each struggled on the day with an 81 and 86, respectively.
Duke will be off until Feb. 25-26 when the Blue Devils will travel to the Arizona Invitational in Tucson, Ariz. Senior Candy Hannemann is expected to make her return at the invitational after being out for the fall with ankle surgery.
