FARMERS BRANCH, TEXAS - Freshman Kelly McCain's run at the Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championships came to an end Saturday as the Wesley Chapel, Fla. native fell to top-ranked Bea Bielik of Wake Forest, 3-6, 1-6, at the Brookhaven Country Club in Farmers Branch, Texas.
McCain, currently ranked 49th nationally in the preseason rankings, had defeated players from Stanford, Texas and Florida before falling to the third-seeded Bielik. She continued Duke's streak of having at least one player in the semifinals as Kathy Sell and Ansley Cargill advanced last season.
The Omni Hotels National Intercollegiate Indoor Championship is the nation's premier collegiate indoor tennis tournament and the second of three national championship events for college tennis this season.
This concludes Duke's fall season. The Blue Devils will open team action on January 25 vs. Marquette in Minneapolis, Minn. - d - u - k - e -
