AUBURN, ALA. -The fourth-ranked Duke women's golf team shot a seven-over-par 295 on Saturday in the 2001 Auburn Tiger-Derby Invitational and heads in to the final day of competition tied for third place. The Blue Devils trail Georgia (591) and Tennessee (592), while tied with Auburn (596).
Sophomore Leigh Anne Hardin (Martinsville, Ind.) carded an even-par 72 Saturday to lead Duke. She improved seven shots from the day before, finishing with three birdies and three bogies on the day. Hardin is tied for 20th individually (151). Virada Nirapathpongporn led Duke with four birdies on the day as she tallied a 73. The sophomore native of Bangkok, Thailand, rebounded from a double-bogey on hole 15 with birdies on two of the final three holes. She is tied for 13th individually with a 149.
Freshman Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (Lausanne, Switzerland) and junior Kristina Engstrom (Djursholm, Sweden) each fired a 75 on Saturday and are tied for ninth individually (148). Maria Garcia-Estrada (Tenerife, Spain) also shot a 79 and is tied for 48th.
Duke began the day two-under-par after finishing the first nine holes with nine birdies, but the Blue Devil's managed only three birdies on the final nine holes to go along with 12 bogies.
