Duke sophomore goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir was named Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Week after leading the Blue Devils to two conference victories last week, as announced by the conference Tuesday morning. She shared the honors with North Carolina sophomore forward Elizabeth Ball.
Helgadottir was spectacular in net for the Blue Devils, stopping four shots in a 1-0 victory over N.C. State and seven in a 2-0 upset-win against No. 19 Wake Forest. Those two shutouts gave the Kopavogur, Iceland, native 8.5 in her career and moved her past Gretchen Young for fifth-most in Duke history.
Ball, a Dallas, Texas, native came off the bench against No. 13 Virginia to record two goals and two assists in the 6-1 Tar Heel victory.
The Blue Devils will finish off their regular season when they travel to Nashville, Tenn., to take on Vanderbilt on November 3rd at 7:00 p.m.
