WINSTON-SALEM, N.C.. - All three of the Duke's doubles teams advanced Friday at the Omni Hotels Southeast Regional Championship played on the campus of Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
Third-seeded Julie DeRoo/Kelly McCain downed Bakran/Ramesh of University of Tennessee Martin (8-1), fifth-seeded Amanda Johnson/Susie Abromeit knocked off Fillnow/Fillnow of Davidson College (8-5) and 13th-seeded Hillary Adams/Saras Arasu defeated Kenoyer/Wojdylo of South Carolina (8-5). Each team will play in the quarterfinals Saturday morning.
In singles action, senior Ioana Plesu (Saint-Foy, Quebec, Canada) picked up her best collegiate win knocking off 86th-ranked Aniela Mojzis of North Carolina (7-5, 6-2). Junior Julie DeRoo (Ecully, France) defeating off Aimee Smith of Wake Forest (6-3, 6-0), while top-seeded Amanda Johnson fell to Wake Forest's Katie Martzolf (3-6, 6-1, 3-6), Susie Abromeit lost to 29th-ranked Julie Rotondi of North Carolina (1-6, 3-6) and Hillary Adams fell to 13th-ranked Janet Bergman of Wake Forest (2-6, 2-6).
DeRoo will take on Laurence Jayet of Clemson University on Saturday, while Plesu will battle Monica Gonzalez-Gordo of the University of Memphis.
In the preseason rankings, Duke's Johnson is ninth and DeRoo is 21st in singles, while in doubles Abromeit/Johnson is 30th and DeRoo/McCain is 37th.
