Duke junior midfielder Carly Fuller scored on a free kick at the 18:25 mark of the first half, leading the Blue Devils to a 1-0 victory over N.C. State Wednesday night at Method Road Field. It was the first Atlantic Coast Conference victory for Duke this season.
Duke received a free kick after a Wolfpack foul. Fuller took the kick and fired shot from 25 yards out into the upper left corner. It was Fuller's third goal of the season.
Duke sophomore goalkeeper Thora Helgadottir shined for the second game in a row, turning away four shots on her way to earning her second shutout of the season.
With the win, Duke improves to 6-8 on the season and 1-5 in the ACC, while N.C. State falls to 7-7 overall and 0-5 in the conference.
The Blue Devils close out ACC play when they host No. 19 Wake Forest at 7:00 p.m. Saturday night at Koskinen Stadium.
