KNOXVILLE, TENN. - The Duke women's golf team shot a 302 on the second day of action at the Mercedes-Benz Women's Collegiate Championship in Knoxville, Tenn. and heads into the final round in second place, one stroke behind Georgia.
After firing a 293 on Friday, the Blue Devils struggled to a 302 on Saturday and stand at 595 after two rounds. Georgia leads the team standings with a 594 with Auburn (597), Purdue (597) and Tennessee (603) rounding out the top five.
Sophomore Leigh Anne Hardin (Martinsville, Ind.) continues to lead the individual competition with a two-day even par 144. After notching a career-best round of 67 on Friday, Hardin struggled to a 77 on Saturday. A double bogey on hole four and a triple bogey on number 17 were the two holes she had trouble with on the day.
Niloufar Aazam-Zanganeh (Lausanne, Switzerland) rebounded from an 80 on day one with a 73 on Saturday and is tied for 30th overall. Sophomore Virada Nirapathpongporn (Bangkok, Thailand) is tied for eighth after firing a 75 today. She recorded three birdies on the day, but a double bogey on the 18th hole led to the 75. Maria Garcia-Estrada (Tenerife, Spain) finished with a 77, while Kristina Engstrom (Djursholm, Sweden) turned in an 83.
The final round will be held Sunday as Duke looks to claim its fourth Mercedes-Benz title in the last five years.
