Duke's lone senior, Carrawell also won the Iron Duke Award (Most Minutes Played) and shared the Best Defensive Player Award with Battier. The St. Louis native won more ACC games than any other player in league history (66) and was a member of four consecutive outright ACC regular season championship teams.
In addition to sharing the MVP and Top Defensive Player honors with Carrawell, Battier won the Dr. Deryl Hart (Top Scholar-Athlete), Best Free Throw Percentage (.814) and True Blue (Most Charges Taken) awards.
Junior tri-captain Nate James earned two awards at the ceremony -- the Coach's Award and the Captain's Award (shared with Carrawell and Battier). James averaged 11.0 points and 4.5 rebounds per game in 1999-2000 and became one of two players in ACC history to be part of four consecutive regular season outright league championship teams (teammate Carrawell was the other).
Duke's freshman class members Carlos Boozer, Mike Dunleavy and Jason Williams earned a total of four awards. Boozer won the Best Field Goal Percentage (.614) and Best Rebounding Average (6.3) awards, while his roommate, Williams, was the winner of the Most Assists honor. Dunleavy earned the Glenn E. "Ted" Mann Award given to the reserve contributing most to team morale.
Senior managers Josh Berger, Kenny King, Kevin Marchetti and Anne Wilson shared the team's Outstanding Manager Award and Shannon Strickland won the Harry Rainey Outstanding Cheerleader Award.
Despite being one of the country's youngest teams, Duke finished the 1999-2000 season with a 29-5 overall record, its fourth consecutive outright ACC regular season championship, the 2000 ACC Tournament title and an appearance in the NCAA Tournament Sweet 16. Duke also finished ranked number one in the final regular season polls by Associated Press and ESPN/USA Today.
