A junior from Birmingham, Mich., Battier averages 17.4 points and 5.5 rebounds this season. He leads the ACC in three-point accuracy (.458) and ranks among the league leaders with an .820 free throw percentage. Battier was named second team All-America by the National Association of Basketball Coaches (NABC) last week. Battier joined Stromile Swift (LSU), Chris Mihm (Texas), A.J. Guyton (Indiana) and Mateen Cleaves (Michigan State) as second team All-Americas.
Carrawell, the 2000 ACC Player of the Year, was named to the Basketball Times All-America third team. The St. Louis, Mo., native is just the second player in Duke history to record at least 1,000 points, 500 rebounds, 100 blocked shots and 300 assists (Grant Hill was the other). He had previously been named first team All-America by the NABC and the United States Basketball Writers Association. Carrawell was a Basketball Times third team honoree along with Dan Langhi (Vanderbilt), Desmond Mason (Oklahoma State), Courtney Alexander (Fresno State) and Jason Gardner (Arizona).
Williams, who averages 14.7 points and 6.5 assists per game, was named Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament Most Valuable Player after leading top-ranked Duke to its second consecutive league tournament championship Sunday in Charlotte, N.C. The Plainfield, N.J. native is the fourth highest-scoring freshman in Duke history and ranks sixth all-time among freshman assist leaders in the ACC. Williams joined Donnell Harvey (Florida), Jason Gardner (Arizona), Casey Jacobson (Stanford) and DerMarr Johnson (Cincinnati) on the Basketball Times Freshman All-America first team.
