DURHAM, N.C. - The Duke women's soccer team was rewarded for their effort in the ACC Women's Soccer Tournament with an invitation to the 2000 NCAA Soccer Championships Sunday evening. The Blue Devils will take on Furman University in a first-round matchup on Wednesday, Nov. 8th at Koskinen Stadium. This will mark the ninth appearance in the NCAA Tournament under head coach Bill Hempen.
"We definitely have a tough road ahead for us," said Hempen. "We are very pleased that we can continue our season."
Duke (13-7-1) advanced to the ACC Championship after advancing past No. 14 Virginia (0-0, 4-3 in penalty kicks) and No. 4 Clemson 1-0, before falling to No. 7 North Carolina 4-0 on Sunday.
Furman (20-2), who will be making their NCAA Tournament appearance, won the 2000 Southern Conference regular season title, but lost to UNC-Greensboro Sunday in the Southern Conference final 1-0.
The winner of the Duke-Furman match will play third-seeded Clemson on Saturday.
