HILTON HEAD, S.C. The No. 1 ranked Duke University women's golf team struggled on Saturday, November 4, but still remains in tied for first place heading into the final day of competition at the Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes in Hilton Head, S.C.
Duke, which tallied a tournament record 284 on Friday and had a seven-stroke lead over Auburn, struggled with a 298 on Saturday and is tied with Auburn for first place with a 582. Junior Candy Hannemann continued her stellar play firing a 73 and is ranked tied for sixth (70-73=143).
Sophomore Maria Garcia-Estrada shot a 76 on day two and is tied for 15th (70-76=146), sophomore Kristina Engstrom is also tied for 15th after firing a second round 74 (72-74=146), freshman Virada Nirapathpongporn is in tied for 20th after shooting a 75 today (72-75=147), and Leigh Anne Hardin finished the day with an 80 and is in tied for 40th (72-80=152).
Rounding out the top five teams are Southern California (583), Texas (583), and Tennessee (587).
Young-A Yang of Tennessee leads the individual competition with a 69-68=137. Duke will begin teeing off at 8:15 AM on Sunday morning with Auburn and Southern California. The tournament is being played at the Arthur Hills Course at Palmetto Hall.
