Beard Named ACC Rookie of the Week For Second Time

DURHAM, N.C. - For the second week in a row, Duke women's basketball freshman Alana Beard has been selected ACC Rookie of the Week after averaging 15.0 points, 4.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and leading Duke to a 4-0 record during the week.

The 5-11 native of Frierson, La. scored 39 points in two road games at No. 8 Penn State and No. 19 Boston College. Beard tallied a career-high 21 points and six steals at Penn State and recorded 18 points at Boston College.

In this past weekend's Duke Classic, Beard scored 21 points, had eight steals, nine assists, and six rebounds, while leading the Blue Devils to their ninth consecutive title and the 11th overall. She was selected to the All-Tournament team.

No. 3 Duke is off to a 7-0 start, which includes three victories over ranked opponents. The Blue Devils will host Charlotte on Wednesday at 7:00 PM. This will be the last home game until Dec. 30 against nationally ranked Iowa State.
