DURHAM, N.C. - Duke University officials dedicated the fabled court at
Cameron Indoor Stadium to head basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski following
the Blue Devils' game versus Villanova on November 17. The official name of
the arena will now be Coach K Court at Cameron Indoor Stadium. Now in his 21st season at Duke, Krzyzewski has posted a 500-160 record at the school and a 573-219 record overall. He earned his 500th win at one institution in the fifth-fewest games by any coach. Krzyzewski has led Duke to eight NCAA Tournament Final Four appearances and two national championships (1991 and 1992).
"Tonight the Cameron Crazies have something special to celebrate," said Duke President Nannerl Keohane at the dedication ceremony following Friday's game. "So many of the victories we have every year come both on and off the court. His teams exemplify character and he always attracts the top talent to play for him every year."
"Coach Krzyzewski has been a shining example of Duke athletics for the past
20 years," said Duke Director of Athletics Joe Alleva. "This is a
well-deserved honor for him tonight. It is a celebration of all of Duke's
accomplishments under Mike -- and all of the accomplishments yet to come."
"I want to thank our administration and whoever was involved with the decision to do that," said Krzyzewski. "It's a great honor. I'm not sure anybody would feel that honor more than me. My love for Duke and this building and the people in it -- I can't love it more. And so to have my name on that court is great ... and I'll try to continue to honor that court in the way we have over these 21 years."
Duke (2-0) is currently rated second in the nation. The Blue Devils advanced to the semifinals of the TiVo Preseason NIT in New York City next week with their 98-85 victory over Villanova on Friday. Duke will face Texas in the semifinals on Wednesday, November 22.
